Our team are at it again… this time in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support!
Following two of our accounts team’s Himalayan Trek challenge earlier this year, our Finance Director has been inspired to take part in his own charitable challenge!
In exactly one month Richard Jones will be attempting to complete the aptly named ‘The Brutal’ – an Ironman distance extreme triathlon!
At 7am on the 20 September he will be donning a wetsuit and an unhealthy quantity of lycra to swim 2.4 miles in the beautiful (albeit slightly nippy) Lake Padarn in Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon, followed immediately by 116 miles on the bike around the hilly roads of the area, before moving onto a 26 mile run that finishes with a run to the top of Snowdon and back! Depending on conditions and how things go on the day he hopes to be finished sometime between 10.00pm and midnight (after 15 – 17 hours of competition!).
Why is he doing this you may ask! In part because he likes a challenge as much as the next person and also to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan are a great organisation that took care of both Richard’s mum and father-in-law in their battles with cancer. Their support made these difficult times that little bit better.
The work that Macmillan does is funded almost entirely from charitable giving, and in 2013 they spent £121.7 million on services to people affected by cancer.
Richard has set a target fundraising of £15,000 but would like to raise as much as possible.
