How to bring the outside in

We all know that this past year has meant a lot of time spent at home. But with welcoming a new season comes the perfect opportunity for a spring interior refresh.

Here at ABI, we have an eye for design (if we do say so ourselves) so with the changing of the seasons we want to share our tips to bring the outdoors in. With the return to parks just around the corner, you can either use these tips at your ABI or give them a go at home for now and add a new lease of life.

One of the best ways to bring the outside in is to decorate with plants. Not only will this brighten up your space and make it feel more spring-like, bringing plants into the home also comes with great health benefits such as reducing your stress and fatigue whilst boosting your mood. Some popular plants to grow at home include Spider Plants, Philodendron and Peace Lilies.

Fresh flowers are also a great way to add new life to your surroundings and stylishly add an organic touch. They give the impression of a natural environment and a feeling of more space which can be great to open up your ABI. Our favourite spring flowers are Daffodils, Tulips and Hyacinths!

If you love the idea of having bright clean plants and beautiful flowers but don’t want the hassle of keeping them alive, purchasing fake ones can be a great alternative. Or try swapping fresh flowers for a stunning dried bouquet that can last for years.

Another way to spruce up your home for spring is to decorate your kitchen or dining table with a beautiful fresh fruit bowl. Having this as a centrepiece will really brighten up the space, being both gorgeous to look at and even more gorgeous to eat!

You could maybe even delve into more exotic selections such as dragon fruit, pomegranate and peaches to make your fruit bowl extra special.

Another option is using organic fabrics, throws and rugs to create a natural ambience inside your ABI or home. Using materials like linen and cotton thrown over your chairs or sofas help to soften the room and provide texture. Relaxed colour tones also look great for a sophisticated look and really transform a space.

You can also try adding mirrors as they have a way of opening up a space, making it look, and feel, larger than it really is, and will help bounce light around the room. It is a good idea to position mirrors in places where they reflect the outdoors, propping them directly opposite windows allows any natural light to reflect into the room, therefore creating a brighter space. This really can make rooms appear lighter and fresher, especially in spring.

Our final tip for bringing an outdoors feel into your home is to consider colour through accessorising! Colour has a big impact on the overall feel and aesthetic of a room, making it one of the best ways to create a certain atmosphere. Colours like green are not only associated with the outdoors but also with health and peacefulness; sunset colours like orange and pink look great too. Accessorising with pops of earthy colours can also be the perfect way to refresh your space for spring.

We know many of you will be itching to get back to your ABI and we are just as excited for you to return! We hope these tips will make the welcome back even more special or you can even use them to freshen up your current space for the time being.
