The holiday season has quickly passed us by, and it’s suddenly that time of year when we have a desire to organise, spring clean and refresh our holiday homes.
In the spirit of cleansing and renewing for the New Year, we have gathered some of the most important steps to get you started.
Deep Cleaning
Set aside a couple of hours where you’re free to clean with no distractions. Put on the radio or listen to your favourite podcast whilst you clean from top to bottom. Sweeping and mopping the wooden floors, dusting the surfaces and trinkets, and hoovering the carpeted bedrooms.
Bringing The Outdoors In
One of the first things you can do to freshen up your home is to add some greenery. This is a fantastic opportunity to visit your local independent homeware shop and add a new plant and a fresh bunch (or two) of flowers in a nice vase to match your decor. Bringing the outside in will always create fresh energy, rather than the cosy vibes of winter.
An indoor bulb garden is a lovely way to add a touch of bloom to your home. A bulb garden of cold-hardy spring bulbs like tulips, daffodils, crocus, hyacinth and others can be planted in pots to bloom indoors in late winter. Make this your new hobby with the children, it’s a fun activity for them to help with.
Let There Be Light!
There’s nothing like a new lamp, light fixture, or shade to brighten up a cosy reading nook. If you’re not keen to spend money on something new, move a light from another section of your holiday home to a new spot. Sometimes all you need is a simple switch-around!
Also, while you’re there, why not replace your old light bulbs with new, contemporary lights. There are a variety of budget-friendly solutions available, or take this as an opportunity to purchase that ornate light fixture you’ve always wanted. Remember that you can use a variety of energy-efficient light bulbs to make your cosy setup as eco-friendly as possible.
Bedtime Bliss
Investing in new bedding is another excellent way to spruce up your home. Sleeping on new, high-quality sheets is such a luxurious feeling and a linen duvet is ideal for both winter and summer. When it comes to styling your bed and giving your sleeping space that much-needed makeover, cushions and throws are simple but highly effective.
Adding eucalyptus and lavender oil spray is a great way to add extra freshness to your bedding, particularly if it will be living in your cupboard for some time whilst you’re not staying at your ABI.
There’s Always Space!
Start decluttering and organising with some matching baskets. Finding new methods to organise and store the necessary clutter is a wonderful way to feel refreshed. Having lots of bits and pieces dotted around can create a chaotic atmosphere in your holiday home. Your ABI should be your haven, a place where you can relax and unwind; spending that extra time and effort to make sure everything has a place will make all the difference.
