Things to Do on Your Next Cornwall Coastal Retreat

The beauty of an ABI life is being able to get away from it all whenever you want, without the hassle of booking in advance, airports, and packing. You get the excitement of going on holiday, with the familiarity of feeling at home.

With the growing uncertainty of foreign travel this summer, many of us are looking closer to home for our next holiday location. So why not try one of the UK’s favourite staycation destinations, Cornwall.

There are so many great activities to do in Cornwall, making it the perfect place for a family-friendly coastal retreat. We have managed to narrow down our six favourite activities so that you can make the most of your Cornish summer holiday.

Land’s End

Your Cornwall experience would not be complete without a trip to Land’s End. Land’s End is the most southern-westerly point in mainland Britain and is one of the country’s most famous landmarks. This landmark is the perfect destination for admiring breath-taking views across the Atlantic Ocean and getting a picture with the iconic Land’s End Signpost. There are also various excellent cafes and restaurants and lots of attractions to keep the kids entertained.

Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm

You might be wondering whether a cider farm is suitable for kids, but it is surprisingly a great day out for the whole family. There is plenty to do and see for all ages! You can visit the cyder factory, the cyder museum, the apple press house and Cornwall’s first distillery. There are also free guided tastings of cyder, gin or soft drinks. To keep the kids happy, you can take them to see the friendly farm animals or take them on a vintage tractor ride through Cornwall’s largest orchards. All of this is included in the admission price, which is excellent value for money.

Newquay Zoo

Newquay Zoo is one of Cornwall’s most exciting visitor attractions and is only a short walk away from the town centre. The zoo is home to various rare and exciting animals such as meerkats, monkeys, lions and more. There are many places to eat, but you can also bring a picnic! If you are looking for a great family day out, you can’t go wrong with Newquay Zoo. To save disappointment, pre-booking is essential.

The Eden Project

Some people have dubbed The Eden Project as the eighth wonder of the world, and it’s clear to see why. Eden is home to the world’s largest indoor rainforest with steamy jungles and waterfalls. You don’t find that anywhere else in the UK!

It is also a great day out for the whole family and is even dog friendly. There is play equipment for the kids, locally sourced food and world-class sculpture and art. What’s not to love?

Surfing

Cornwall is famed for its surfing, so it’s the perfect place to give it a go! You don’t have to be a strong surfer by any means to ride the Cornish waves. There are plenty of safe beaches in Cornwall that are ideal for novice surfers. Many surf schools offer lessons for children, adults, and families, so no one needs to miss out.

Minack Theatre

Cornwall is also home to another world-famous landmark. Minack is a picturesque open-air theatre that is carved into the side of a granite cliff. It could be argued that this is one of the most spectacular theatres in existence and looks like it was created thousands of years ago by the ancient Greeks. When visiting the theatre, you can take in the breathtaking views across the coastline and enjoy the architectural masterpiece. The theatre is currently open for a variety of performances, from music to comedy. Minack also features an exhibition, coastal gardens, and plenty of takeaway refreshments. This place is a must-see, but please make sure you book in advance!

As you can see, Cornwall is the perfect location for a summer staycation, with plenty of great activities to give a go. It gives you the chance to live the ABI life, enjoy the clean Cornish air, spectacular views, beaches and of course, peace and quiet.

If you do happen to visit Cornwall, make sure you share your holiday snaps with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
